Yesterday we tried the lunchtime “Menú Antipanic” at Bar 6, a cool-looking restaurant near our apartment. For 40 pesos each (about $12 US) you get either a starter and main, or dessert and main, plus a beverage, from the following choices:
We both had the salad to start. It was fresh and yummy, with what seemed to be home-made sun-dried tomatoes (normally I can’t stand those, but they were really good here):
Then we each had gnocchi, but with different types of sauce, or salsa. I opted for a traditional tomato and basil sauce that, while tasty, was a bit on the bland side:
Jay had his carbonara-style, which was definitely the best way to go, with big chunks of pancetta. Gnocchis (or ñoquis, as they say here) are usually pretty risky to order in restaurants, we've noticed, a little easy to screw up, so they become dough-y or sticky or tasteless. Here, they were absolutely perfect.
It’s not the cheapest place in town, but this is the best non-parilla food we’ve had yet in Buenos Aires. So don't panic: we’ll definitely be back!
(Bar 6 is located at Armenia 1676 between El Salvador and Honduras).
Oh my sweet fucking lord. That gnocci sounded out of this world. I could practically taste its delicious, yielding texture and the sauce that Jay ordered I never would have picked, but it sounded ultra supreme-oh (it doesn't help that I don't have anything but cereal to eat in the house. Crunchy don't do it for me after reading this posting!!!)
